Welcome to G2 Training
Understand how to use the course and build consistent test-ready habits.
The G2 road test checks whether you can apply basic driving skills safely and consistently. Your aim is not to memorise a test route; it is to develop observation, communication, vehicle control and judgement that work on any suitable road.
Four habits to build
Observation & Blind Spots
Build an effective observation routine before every change of direction or position.
Scan continuously
Look well ahead for signs, signals, pedestrians, cyclists, intersections, parked vehicles and changing traffic. Check mirrors regularly so you know what is happening behind and beside you.
Lane-change routine
- Check traffic and mirrors.
- Signal your intention.
- Check the appropriate blind spot.
- Move only when the space is safe.
- Cancel the signal and continue scanning.
Turns & Intersections
Prepare early, position correctly and scan for conflicts.
Approach turns at a controlled speed. Check traffic, signal, use the correct lane and scan the intersection before committing. Watch particularly for pedestrians and cyclists crossing your path.
At stop signs
Where a stop is required, bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Observe carefully before proceeding and accept only a safe gap.
Parking, Reversing & Manoeuvres
Practise slow control with continuous observation.
Parallel parking
Approach and position carefully, observe around the vehicle and reverse slowly. Learn to judge your vehicle's position rather than relying entirely on memorised steering counts.
Three-point turn
Select a safe location with adequate visibility. Observe before every movement and keep the vehicle under slow control.
Roadside stop
Choose a safe place, check traffic, signal and pull over smoothly. Before moving away, check mirrors and the appropriate blind spot, signal and enter traffic only when safe.
Common G2 Test Mistakes
Identify habits that need more practice before test day.

Welcome to Full G Training
Move from basic control to advanced planning and roadcraft.
The full G road test assesses more advanced driving developed through experience. Your driving should show early planning, smooth control, effective observation, safe speed and space management, and confident decisions on major roads and expressways.
Expressway Merging & Exiting
Learn a planned routine for entering, driving on and leaving an expressway.
Entering
- Observe expressway traffic early.
- Use the acceleration lane to build an appropriate speed for conditions.
- Signal and identify a safe gap.
- Check mirrors and the appropriate blind spot.
- Merge smoothly when safe.
Exiting
Identify the exit early, move into the appropriate lane in good time, signal, enter the deceleration lane safely and adjust speed for the exit conditions.
Speed, Space & Lane Management
Create time and space to make safe decisions at higher speeds.
Look farther ahead so you can respond progressively instead of braking or steering suddenly. Maintain an appropriate following distance and increase space when conditions make stopping or visibility more difficult.
Lane changes
Plan early, check mirrors, signal, check the appropriate blind spot and change lanes smoothly when there is adequate space. Avoid unnecessary weaving or last-second movements.
Major Roads & Hazard Awareness
Manage complex traffic by identifying hazards early.
On busy roads, watch for buses, cyclists, pedestrians, vehicles emerging from driveways, turning traffic and changing signals. Keep enough space around the vehicle to preserve options.
Hazard routine
- Identify the developing hazard.
- Reduce risk by changing speed or position when appropriate.
- Communicate clearly if you need to change position.
- Reassess continuously.
G Test Strategy
Turn safe everyday driving into a consistent test performance.
Drive normally and safely. Listen to directions but make your own safety decisions. Do not rush a movement because you think the examiner expects it immediately. If a direction is unclear, ask for clarification while continuing to drive safely.
